During the first half of the twentieth century, a gradual shift was made from vocational training to more formal medical education. The 1968 Royal Commission on Medical Education addressed this issue, and led to a close association between St Bartholomew’s and The London Hospital Medical Colleges, and a link to Queen Mary College.
Since 1960, medical and dental practice have advanced. Treatments and diagnostic technology have improved, facilitating better care for patients and transforming medical education.
Throughout this period, women have made significant contributions to the study of medical and dental subjects, and to innovative research projects. In 2006, the Dental School was judged one of the best in the country by external assessors. Dental teaching is separate from medical teaching, and the entire study programme is carefully tailored to students’ needs. More...
