Student numbers also continued to grow at Westfield College, which saw 711 students graduate with honours between 1950 and 1959. This was a significant rise from the 1930 to 1939 period which saw 406 students graduate with honours from Westfield.

Westfield graduate in English in 1957.

Kathleen Chesney became Principal in 1951 and helped to strengthen Westfield 's profile as an Arts College during this period. In 1954, a Chair in English and a Chair in History, were established, and in 1955, Spanish was elevated to the status of an Honours Department.
