Today's Queen Mary, University of London is formed by the amalgamation of Westfield College, Queen Mary College, Barts and The London Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.
Over several decades these institutions formed links, leading eventually to the merger between them.
St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and The London Hospital Medical College developed a close association following the Royal Commission on Medical Education in 1968, and new links were established with Queen Mary College at the same time.
In 1989, Queen Mary College merged with Westfield College to form Queen Mary and Westfield College, which remains the legal name of the College today.
In 1992, Barts, The London and The London Chest Hospital joined to form Barts and The London NHS Trust.
A few years later, in 1995, Queen Mary and Westfield College merged with St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and the London Hospital Medical College.
The College is now know as Queen Mary, University of London and is fully integrated, with several campuses in East London and The City. The merger of the four institutions has succeeded in bringing together the strengths across all disciplines.
The College has gained an international reputation for its teaching and research. Its students come from all backgrounds and cultures, representing the diversity of London, as well as the College's international links and partnerships.
